Carnegie Education Fund is recruiting a Project Officer (0.6 FTE) to support the ongoing development and use of Scotland’s Fair Access Map – a digital resource that provides a national overview of the activity in Scotland that is helping ensure people from all backgrounds can enter and succeed in higher education.

Scotland’s Fair Access Map is a partnership project co‑funded by Carnegie Education Fund and The Robertson Trust, developed with SCAPP and built by The Open University. It aims to provide a complete picture of current fair access initiatives to help practitioners, policymakers and funders understand what is happening across the sector.

The post is currently funded for four years. Any extension will be subject to future funding and the continued success of Scotland’s Fair Access Map.

About the role

You will:

• Act as a key point of contact for Scotland’s Fair Access Map, building and sustaining relationships with widening access and participation practitioners across Scotland.
• Work closely with SCAPP and other sector networks to keep the resource visible, trusted and useful.
• Take responsibility for the database that underpins the Map, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and complete.
• Run a regular cycle of data collection, checking and updates, resolving gaps and inconsistencies.
• Represent CEF at sector events and forums, gathering feedback to inform future development.
• Identify opportunities to extend the reach and usefulness of the tool, working with technical suppliers where needed.
• Monitor usage and report on impact, reach and value.

You will join a small, friendly team of six, working flexibly and remotely, with occasional travel to sector events.

Who we’re looking for

We’re seeking someone who is:

• Confident in building and maintaining productive working relationships.
• Knowledgeable about, or strongly interested in, widening access, higher education or social policy issues in Scotland.
• Accurate and comfortable working with data, records or datasets.
• An excellent communicator with the ability to engage different audiences.
• Well organised, self‑directed and proactive.
• Improvement‑minded, with the ability to spot opportunities and follow them through.

Knowledge of SCAPP or existing relationships in the sector are desirable, as is familiarity with digital tools and working with technical suppliers.
